Sorry--been a bit busy with some other writing endeavors that are long-term and keeping me away from blogging but will be totally worth it when they finally show up. For the moment, I'll point you towards a weird, who-knows-what-it-will-mean Tumblr project I started a couple weeks ago:
The iPOD Journal. I'm figuring it out as I go along and I guess I'm still waiting to see the effects/results if any of this kind of cataloging, but yeah--check it out. Joseph of
Geek Down started his own too. It's called
EyePod, so check it out.
Also, I'm no longer associated with the website
41Yo.Com for a number of reasons I'll get into at some point.
i hope the other projects you're talking about include the biographical dictionary of rap, that shit was pretty dope

ReplyDeleteI have a few of those I need to finish, I'll move them up on my procrastinating list if there's someone into the idea. Thanks!
Brandon,
ReplyDeleteI've been conducting a similar Ipod/Itunes experiment, but instead of a journal I'm creating playlists for the each month October 2008, November 2008, etc.
New purchases/acquisitions, songs I find myself singing, or just retrospectives all make for fantastic playlists.
I got the idea from watching the bonus content from Almost Famous. Cameron Crowe would make mixtapes in this same fashion. The effect is not only regaining a coherent time-line for music, but also attaching and re-living memories to songs.
Hope this helps,
Thadd

ReplyDeleteThis sounds great and well, more engaging. Any chance the internets will see these lists?
Hah, I like how your solution to all middling albums ever is to re-sequence them. You should start like an album upload site except with all the tracks to each album re-sequenced to perfection. Just to fuck around with anyone that downloads it.

ReplyDeleteHa, yeah....
That's the thing though, just create some sense of an arc to your album and it works, well enough. It's like making a mix CD. NOT THAT HARD.
The Willie Isz needs like two more rap tracks and all the non-rap stuff would be fine. As it is, it's a good but not great album.
Brandon,
ReplyDeleteI'd like to put something-up.
Maybe we can collab?

I think as far as I'll ever take my ipod/itunes endeavors will be allowing people to look at what I'm listening to through AIM. Not that I'm embarrassed, but I know that some of my musical choices weird/freak people out, like they don't even make sense to me sometimes.
ReplyDeletethe dismemberment plan - emergency & i ... that's a really good record ;)
